Abstrak

Laundry activity is an activity which produce most of domestic liquid waste. Within 100 m of the UNJANI area there are 8 laundry place that produces 3400 liters of waste/day and if allowed to continue without treatment would be dangerous domestic waste. Besides liquid waste, there are other like metal waste. Metal waste generated by the division in the industry only reached 26 kg/day. Method of electrocoagulation is capable of removing various types of pollutants in the water. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of electrode shape the outcome electrocoagulation process by utilizing waste ferrous metals as electrodes for liquid waste treatment facilities. Electrocoagulation process is done in laundry waste volume 4,5L in a batch with the waste ferrous metals as electrodes. Electrocoagulation process operated on the variation of spiral-shaped electrode and a square with the effective area 342,28cm2. Electrodes energized 8A and 25 minutes contact time with the measurement range of samples every 5 minutes. Here are the removal efficiency in electrocoagulation process using a spiralshaped electrode: 98,51% turbidity, TSS 88%, 73,3% COD, TDS 9,9% and 0,39% density. Electrocoagulation process using square electrode removal efficiency values were lower than the square-shaped electrodes with removal efficiency: 93,56% turbidity, TSS 84,5%, 77% COD, and density of 0,17%.
