Abstract

Morus macroura Miq (Andalas) is a species of the genus Morus that is a rare and endemic plants of Indonesia. Plants of this genus have been reported to be rich in phenolic compounds such as flavonoids derivatives, 2-arylbenzofuran and stilbene. Some 2-arylbenzofuran derivatives reported has antibacterial activity, antifungal, antiplas modial, anticancer, antitumor, anti-inflammatori, antiviral, malaria drugs, flu and cough. In search of the active anti leukemia cancer compounds of Andalas species, this study have been isolated by derivatives 2-arilbenzofuran compounds namely moracin M of methanol extract of the stem bark of this plant. The molecular structure of the compound has been determined based on the data of physics and spectroscopy. In vitro cytotoxicity assay against murine leukemia cells P-388 showed that moracin M isactive (IC50=2.54 µg/mL).
