Utilization of Renewable Energy for Charging Station in Indonesia New Appointed Capital City, Nusantara

Abstract

Indonesia has a plan to move the capital city from Jakarta to Nusantara in 2045. The government will implement post pandemic development in Nusantara with one of the most important points is decarbonization. The decarbonization is the policy to reduce emission until net zero emission condition is achieved. The decarbonization will be realized by utilization of renewable energy source and pure electric vehicle. Pure electric vehicle may not generate any emission although the emission may come from the electricity source such as coal power plant and diesel power plant. In order to realize decarbonization in electric vehicle application, one of the alternative solutions is providing charging station with renewable energy sources. There are several gas stations in Indonesia have been equipped with charging station including direct charging for vehicle and charging for battery swap station. However, the electricity source still dominated by non-renewable energy sources. In this paper, charging station with renewable energy source is proposed to support decarbonization policy from Indonesia Government especially in new appointed capital city,Nusantara. The renewable potency in Nusantara is discussed and then, based on government plan in developing Nusantara, charging station will be located close to government building area and covered at least 5 km distance similar with gas stations minimum distance requirement in Indonesia. From the simulation, it is known that daily temperature in Nusantara already comply with Standard Test Condition (STC) and annual average of solar Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI) around 4.75 kWh/m2/day. However, the annual average wind speed data in Nusantara is only 1.90 m/s. Solar energy is promising although wind power plant is not promising in Nusantara.Simulation results are shown and discussed in detail.
