Development Of A Low Cost Alcohol-Hydration-Meter Using LED, LDR And TGS 2620 Sensors
Abstract
Individuals often ignore the state of hydration. Sustained dehydration can cause damage to the kidneys which could lead to kidney failure and death if it reaches the stage of severe dehydration. In addition, consumption of alcoholic beverages in an unnatural amount can damage the body. Blood tests and urine tests are usually used to check the level of alcohol in the body, but this method takes a long time, which is about two hours. This paper describes a prototype for detecting hydration status and alcohol contents through human urine which aims to make it easier to check hydration status and alcohol content in the body. The prototype was developed using LED, LDR sensor, and TGS 2620 sensor for detecting the color of urine sample and recognizing alcohol in the urine sample, and Arduino microcontroller as signal processor in order to display the hydration status and level of alcohol in the body via LCD display. Experimental results show the prototype can detect hydration and alcohol status through the urine sample in a relatively short time. The accuracy rate for hydration status is 99.87 % and the accuracy level for liquid alcohol content is 99.59%.
