Development Of Guiding Cap For Disabilities With Limited Vision Using Ultrasonic Sensors And Vibrating Motor Disc

Abstract

This paper presents the design and development of a guiding cap for individuals with limited vision, aiming to improve their mobility and independence. The cap utilizes ultrasonic sensors and a vibrating motor disc to detect obstacles in the user's path and provide haptic feedback, allowing the wearer to navigate safely. The whole system is implemented using four ultrasonic sensors, an Arduino Nano microcontroller, two vibrating motor discs, and is equipped with a battery and a battery charging system using a solar cell. The haptic feedback received by the cap wearer is generated by vibrating motor discs attached to the right and left sides of the cap, with slow or fast vibration modes based on the distance of the object or obstacle. The motor vibrates slowly if the distance is between 60 – 120 cm, while it vibrates faster when the distance is detected to be less than 60 cm. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and usability of the developed prototype, highlighting its potential as an assistive device for individuals with visual impairments.
