Design And Implementation Of Smart Room Prototype Using Google Assistant, Internet Of Things Platform, And Cloud Messaging Services



Abstract

The advancement of technology is directed to serve human needs in living their lives. One form of service provided is in the form of practicality in controlling various household appliances that do not require the user to be in a position close to the equipment or to control it manually. It is very necessary, whenever someone forgets to turn off a household appliance because doing other work and then finds it difficult to confirm and take action due to being limited by distance. This paper describes a smart room prototype that can be controlled and monitored remotely using an Android-based mobile device. In the proposed system, the Google Assistant application is used as an access medium to control the object and employs the cloud messaging service called Telegram as an access medium in monitoring the conditions of temperature, humidity, and equipment under control through the Google Assistant application. In addition, the system implementation utilizes an Internet of Things (IoT) platform called ThingSpeak to display all monitored room conditions in the room. Experimental results show that the voice commands given through the Google Assistant application can be executed correctly. All equipment conditions that work according to voice commands are displayed in the ThingSpeak dashboards and Telegram application. The level of compatibility between the commands given and the status of the equipment is highly dependent on the quality of the network. The best success rate was achieved at around 72.16 % with an average delay time of
4.05 seconds.
